New Baby

She Has Arrived!

August 24, 2019 by NZ Filbruns 4 Comments

We were not anticipating meeting our new baby until at least now, but she arrived four days ago already. We are feeling incredibly blessed to have another daughter! After all the loss and trauma our family has experienced over the past three years, we are rejoicing to have new life in our home.

Maria Joy, who will henceforth be known on this blog as Miss Joy, arrived early Tuesday morning after a relatively easy labor. She weighed 7 pounds, 1.5 ounces, and was 19 inches long, our second-smallest baby. She is very happy so far, waking up every few hours to have a feed, look around for awhile at the fascinating world of light and listen to the sounds around her, have another feed and go back to sleep. She occasionally gets laid down in the bassinet—but most of the time people clamor to hold her! The three teenage boys, especially, argue good-naturedly about who gets to hold the baby!

Here is our precious newborn, just a few hours old.02-IMG_2239

Do you think they were excited?03-IMG_2241

Little Miss finally had the prayer answered which she prayed at least a year and a half ago, for a sister.06-IMG_224407-IMG_596108-IMG_596409-IMG_5967

The morning after she was born, we compared her feet to Mr. Intellectual’s big toe!10-IMG_224911-IMG_2251

Photo-bombers! This is Mr. Diligence and Simon. (Simon, by the way, thinks he is entitled to hold the baby any time he’s at home! He feels like he misses out on a lot because he has to work.)16-IMG_2257

Poor Simon had to do schoolwork last night and let his daddy hold the baby!18-IMG_2258

This is what is happening right now. Mr. Sweetie asked if he could hold the sleeping baby, and promptly fell asleep with her!19-IMG_5977

On the Countdown!

We only have a month till we get to meet this baby! I brought the tubs of baby clothes into the house last week to sort through them and find the tiny stuff, and a few days ago got the receiving blankets and burp cloths washed. I still haven’t touched the rest of the clothes, but at least that much is done. I was going to take a picture of those things on the clothesline, but took a nap first, and woke up, just half an hour after hanging them, to the sound of rain! They were halfway dry already, which I was thankful for. We’ve also been very thankful for several days of rain, badly needed here in North Canterbury. Anyway, here are the things I washed—a lot still around from when Esther was tiny! I just love seeing them again. Yes, that does look like a lot of burp cloths, but based on past experience, we’ll need them.

Baby’s First Outing

April 7, 2012 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

Today was Baby’s first time to leave home.  We took a picnic lunch to Gore Bay, and the older children played in the sand for a couple of hours.  Esther and Grandma enjoyed taking pictures!

Baby slept happily on the way to Gore Bay and for an hour or more while we were there.

Lots of waves and lots of foam today!

When the waves went out, there was still enough water in the sand to make reflections. Daddy, Grandma, and the boys.

Baby was not happy about being in his seat when we left, and cried until he fell asleep (in a couple of minutes!) with this aggrieved expression on his face.

He’s Here!

March 30, 2012 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s been a long silence on this end.  Baby decided to wait 11 days after his due date, and my mind was not functioning quite normally, then he suddenly got in a hurry Sunday evening and arrived after only 2 1/2 hours warning!  Recovery has been slow, but he’s quite worth it all. Everyone is thoroughly enjoying having a baby in the house once again.  They fight over holding him at times.  Next oldest adores him; anytime he has the privilege of holding baby he laughs and laughs!  He’s only tried carrying him once so far…all the way down the hallway from our bedroom to the kitchen!  He got told off pretty sternly; hope he learns his lesson without doing it again.

All the children were thrilled to get to hold him just an hour and a half after he was born! Why I love homebirth: immediately after he came I was able to clean up and crawl into my own bed with all the family around!

Finally this morning, at 5 days old, he had his eyes open for awhile in the daytime. So far, he had just been awake and alert at night.
