Little Miss

Little Miss is 11 Months Old

December 14, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

She has learned to do a lot of things in the past month. About two weeks ago, she started walking, and now she goes everywhere she wants. These first two pictures were from about three weeks ago, when she first learned how to go outside by herself without falling on her nose. She would sit down at the edge, swing one foot out, then the other, and then plunk down on her bottom. I love that look on her face! She was so pleased with her accomplishment.IMG_2330IMG_2331

Here, she was quite upset because she was locked out of the kitchen while the floor was being washed. She did her best to pry the door open, screaming in frustration the whole time.

IMG_2389

Here, she was very pleased to be able to play with the broad bean pods after we shelled them. It’s so much fun to scatter things!

IMG_2391

Just waking up from a nap.

IMG_2405

She’s discovered the joy of playing in gravel and dirt in the past couple of weeks. She loves to push it back and forth with her hands.

IMG_2430

She worked out how to climb into a box of toys.

IMG_2443

All ready for church.

IMG_2450

Mr. Imagination loves to play with soft toys, and he lined his dolls and stuffed animals up on my rocking chair one morning. Little Miss was delighted to play with them, too.

IMG_2510

Now that she can walk, she loves to carry things around. Here, she found the handle of a croquet mallet. She wanted it in the house, so she threw it in the door, then climbed in herself and walked around brandishing it.

Videos of Baby for Her Absent Siblings

November 28, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

We predicted that Little Miss would learn to walk while her big sister and brother are in America. Until yesterday, I wondered if that would actually happen. Now, I am sure it will! These videos are for the two of you who are absent; hopefully you can see them in a few days when you have access to internet again.

First, she learned to push her stroller last evening–that was thrilling, as you can see! The laughter you can hear is Mr. Imagination.

Then, today, she started walking on her own.

She is also waving. She often waves with just one hand, but when she gets really excited she uses both.

Ten Months Already!

November 15, 2015 by NZ Filbruns 1 Comment

This little girl is already ten months old. She is more fun all the time. All her brothers love to cuddle her and encourage her to walk, although she isn’t taking steps on her own yet. She stands up from a squat anywhere she is, though. She’s a very happy little girl unless she’s tired or hungry or gets hurt, and she’s very good at expressing herself.

A week and a half ago, we spent the whole day getting Esther and Mr. Handyman ready to leave for six weeks in America. Little Miss loved playing on the suitcases.

Little Miss loves her Daddy! She was overjoyed last Saturday afternoon when he carried her around this way for an hour.

IMG_2250

Last year’s Swiss Chard (called Silverbeet here) is going to seed, so I’ve been pulling it and cutting off the leaves to cook. Little Miss “helped” me and tasted the stems.

IMG_2258

When I washed the Silverbeet, she helped by pulling leaves out and throwing them around.

IMG_2271

She loves her doll, as well as this one, which belongs to Mr. Imagination.

IMG_2279

Mr. Sweetie was trying to sweep and wash the kitchen floor last week. Little Miss wanted to “help”, but I locked her into the living room with the help of two chairs. She was not happy about it–watch this short video to hear what she had to say! She often talks like this.

Leaf Jumpers…and a Cannibal!

November 2, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago, I took the children to the Domain here in our village. It’s a piece of public land, and it’s fairly heavily wooded, with trails through the trees. There is a large open area, which is now a cricket playing field. The cricket clubhouse is at the edge of the field, and was built on part of the foundation of William “Ready Money” Robinson’s mansion. Robinson made a fortune on the Australian gold fields in, I believe, the 1870s, and came here with the money. He bought an immense tract of land, about half the size of a county in Michigan, and then built this mansion. If I remember right, all 3 stories and 40 rooms of it were finished in about 1881, and Robinson died the following year.

Anyway, we went there a couple of weeks ago to do some filming for a movie the children were making. (Watch for it to post here sometime in December, after Esther posts it on her blog, http://estherfilbrun.com.) The day was a perfect spring day, so after the filming was finished, we just spent some time enjoying the beautiful setting. While the boys played, and rode a bike very fast down a very steep hill, Esther and I read for awhile and played with Little Miss. The little boys (and some slightly bigger ones) enjoyed jumping in a big pile of leaves that Esther raked up for them. Esther put this short video together for me.

Baby Bookworm, Part 2

October 28, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

This little girl LOVES books! She is tired of her board books; she wants the books everyone else reads. Just before I took this first picture, she was looking at the books in front of her, pulling one out partway and studying it, then letting it go back in place.IMG_2172IMG_2173

She was looking at picture books this afternoon. I wanted a picture of her doing that, but the camera distracted her. Mr. Imagination, however, got this gem. She often smiles/laughs this way, but it’s very hard to get a picture of it. Sometimes it’s worthwhile to let the little boys have the camera!

Baby Bookworm

Little Miss loves books already. Her very favorite story is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? She loves the colorful pictures, as you can see in this video. This is put together from a number of different readings. In real life, she gets a lot more excited than we were able to capture on video.

Sweet Little Children

October 22, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

Here are some recent pictures of some of my favorite little people.

First is a picture of both of my daughters.

IMG_2092

Little Miss has been standing up without support lately. This was the first day she was doing it, and she only did it that day on the edge of the kitchen door! She was enthralled with Mr. Imagination playing with that stool! I couldn’t get a picture of her standing up because she went down again so fast.

IMG_2097IMG_2111

Little Miss, watching us working in the garden.

IMG_2127

Helping Daddy take the sprouts off potatoes.

IMG_2131

Little Miss loves the baby geese—look at her mouth!

IMG_2136

Mr. Imagination wanted to make a recipe video. He really didn’t know where he was going with it—just wanted to make one. He was going to use water and cooked rice. Then, he spilled the water, and then my memory card filled up so we had to quit.

IMG_2147

She was thrilled to be outside!

IMG_2151

This is jealousy. Little Miss was unhappy with Mr. Imagination being on my lap.

September Pictures of Little Miss

October 1, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

This little girl is getting very very busy. Now that she can get around, she is a very happy little girl, and loving being able to investigate all the interesting things that are at her eye level.IMG_1815

One day, a big brother took her outside. She found a mud puddle, and had lots of fun!

IMG_1817

After I got her cleaned up, she fell asleep almost immediately.

IMG_1818

One day during school, she tipped a book box over and ended up on top of it! She was not happy, but not hurt so I grabbed a picture quickly before rescuing her.

IMG_1819IMG_1830

The big thing right now is going under things.

IMG_1842

One day, Esther took Little Miss outside and put her on a sheet to play. Mr. Imagination played with her.

IMG_1857

“Why can’t I go outside like everyone else?” Look at that sad face!

IMG_1860

Mr. Handyman loves to hold his sister; here he was singing after church.

IMG_1880

Happily banging away on top of a trash can.

IMG_1882

“Yes, I’m cleaning out the cupboard for you. You mean I shouldn’t be tasting all the containers while I do it?”

IMG_1988IMG_1990

She was so pleased with herself the day she discovered the pantry shelves and that she could pull containers off! The next step was the discovery that the lid of the brown sugar container was loose. I have now moved that one up higher.

Eight Months

September 14, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

Little Miss is now eight months old, and I decided to post eight month pictures of the other children. People keep asking if she looks like the others—you judge! The first five are scanned copies of prints from photo albums—we didn’t have a digital camera then.

Esther tried to help with dishes in the rental house we lived in until she was about 10 months old.Esther005

Mr. Handyman

Seth004

Mr. Inventor still loves babies—real ones now!

Simon003

Mr. Intellectual

Elijah001

When Mr. Diligence was little, we made our living by raising, butchering, and selling chickens. We also butchered chickens for other people. We would spend two days a week in the butcher shed. One day, Mr. Intellectual (almost 3) was taking care of Mr. Diligence (around 8 months) while we butchered. They got hungry; it was usually 1:00-2:00 by the time we went in for lunch. When I went in the house to clean up and finish lunch, I found a brown trail leading from the door to the pantry. You can guess what my first thought was—yuck! Then, I found this baby, covered with the brown stuff, and then I saw the container beside him and smelled what he had. Peanut butter! Mr. Intellectual had gotten the peanut butter container off the shelf we kept it on, and the two of them had a feast. Funny, Mr. Diligence still loves peanut butter more than almost any other food! Oh, and I spent a good while cleaning up instead of finishing making lunch!

James002

Mr. Sweetie was our first baby to experience a New Zealand winter. He discovered the woodbox built into the wall of the living room one day, and had a wonderful little playhouse!

IMG_5164

When Mr. Imagination was about eight months old, he got to taste chocolate for the first time, when I made a birthday cake for Mr. Handyman. He apparently approved of the flavor!

And here is 8-month-old Little Miss!IMG_1876

Little Miss, late August Pictures

September 7, 2015 by NZ Filbruns Leave a Comment

We seem to keep taking pictures of Little Miss! She is a very happy little girl most of the time. As you can see below, she loves her bath.IMG_1697

Now that she can crawl, she likes to go in the bathroom and check out the bathtub. Mr. Imagination was playing with a balloon-powered boat.

DSCF0464

She found the toys in the boys’ room one day.

DSCF0489

She wasn’t sure about getting water dripped on her head.

IMG_1715IMG_1722IMG_1724

Which brother will she choose? Mr. Diligence, Mr. Handyman, and Mr. Inventor were all trying to get her to come, and this time she chose Mr. Handyman.

IMG_1733

Mr. Handyman took her for a walk.

IMG_1782

One day in Family Worship, we were reading one of the last chapters of Job, where God is asking Job if he knows as much as God. To illustrate, Gayle asked Little Miss a series of questions, none of which, of course, she was able to answer!

IMG_1784

I love those little bare feet!
